The story of grower Kwekerij Sensation started in the year 1989 as a partnership of a father and two brothers. Nowadays the family business is run by the two brothers, Jan and Aalbert. Their total of 4.6 hectares grows several types of white chrysanthemums of which one of them is the Pina Colada.
Pina Colada Chrysanthemum
With more than 5 million Pina Colada out of 11,5 million chrysanthemums in their greenhouses, Sensation is an active and developing chrysanthemum grower that started their Pina Colada growing process 3 years ago:
“We were looking to grow a new variety. At that time, Dümmen Orange came with an amazing white-filled chrysanthemum. After running a few tests, we eventually enthusiastically decided to continue growing them.” Shares Ilonka Ekelmans of Kwekerij Sensation.
How Sensation Experiences the Pina Colada
This spray chrysanthemum grows heavily which always assures a nicely filled bunch. The longevity of the flower in its vase life also makes a great difference. This way they are extremely suitable for long transports to countries such as Russia or Kazakhstan. Previously Sensation also grew the yellow Pina Colada chrysants. At the moment they only focus on growing the original white Pina Colada.
"The fresh-looking green heart of the flower, both in summer ánd winter makes it a really special chrysanthemum. A fun but also a very important fact: in summer, many chrysanthemums start looking a bit pale due to the heat. The green heart keeps giving that extra freshness and crisp look to the flower. Also one of our favorite assets; place a bunch of Pina Coladas in a vase and watch the flower develop each day. It will amaze you. The Pina Colada is a crisp white, heavy growing strong flower with a fresh green heart."
